Schema markup is a standard vocabulary, agreed by the major search engines, that describes your page to a machine: "this is a business, here are its name, address and phone number", "this is a service in Dubai", "this is a question and its answer". Search engines use it to understand your content and, sometimes, to show richer results. It does not guarantee a ranking, but it removes guesswork.

Use JSON-LD

Google recommends JSON-LD, a block of structured text placed in the page head or body, separate from the visible layout. It is easier to maintain than markup mixed into the HTML. Your marketing website or CMS should generate it from the same data as the page, so the two always match.

The types that suit most UAE businesses

  • Organization describes your company: legal name, logo, website, contact points and social profiles.
  • LocalBusiness (and more specific subtypes) suits any business with a location or service area. Include the address, opening hours, phone, geographic area and the languages you serve.
  • Service describes what you offer and where, such as "ERP development, Dubai". Use it on service pages and be accurate about the area served.
  • Article or BlogPosting describes your guides, with headline, author, dates and image.
  • FAQPage marks up questions and answers that are visible on the page. Only mark up what readers can see.
  • BreadcrumbList shows the page's place in your site structure.
  • Product and Offer suit online stores, with price, currency (AED) and availability.

Rules that keep you safe

  • Mark up only what is visible on the page and true. Misleading markup can lead to a manual action.
  • Do not invent reviews or ratings. Review markup should reflect genuine, visible customer reviews and follow Google's current guidelines.
  • Keep information consistent with your Google Business Profile.
  • Update the markup when the page changes.

Test before and after publishing

Use Google's Rich Results Test for eligible types and the Schema Markup Validator for general syntax. After publishing, check the Enhancements section in Search Console for errors and warnings. Fix issues rather than ignoring them.

Bilingual sites

Write the markup in the language of the page, and keep the same organization identity across languages. Combine it with hreflang as described in bilingual SEO for UAE websites.

Where schema fits in the plan

A simple Organization example

An Organization block lists your name, URL, logo, contact telephone and the countries you serve. For a company serving the whole country, the area served can be the United Arab Emirates, and for a company with several branches each branch can have its own LocalBusiness entry. Keep names and phone numbers identical to those on your Google Business Profile so the signals agree. Your developer can generate this from your settings page so a change in one place updates everywhere.
