Sooner or later every growing UAE business asks who should run its marketing. Hire a marketer, pay an agency, or use a freelancer? Each option works in the right circumstances and fails in the wrong ones. Here is how to compare them honestly.

Option 1: In-house marketer or team

Strengths: deep knowledge of your products and customers, quick response, daily presence, and loyalty to your goals. Weaknesses: salary, visa and benefits cost, limited range of skills (a generalist rarely excels at ads, design, video, SEO and analytics at once), risk if the person leaves, and the need for management and tools.

Option 2: Agency

Strengths: a team of specialists, proven processes, tools and a fresh view from many clients. Weaknesses: less knowledge of your business at first, attention shared across clients, fees and minimum contracts, and a risk that you lose access to accounts or data when you leave.

Option 3: Freelancer

Strengths: lower cost, flexibility and direct contact with the person doing the work. Weaknesses: single point of failure, limited capacity, and the need to check licence and invoicing arrangements.

A rule of thumb by stage

  • Just starting, small budget: a freelancer or a small agency for the foundations: website, tracking, Google Business Profile and first ads.
  • Growing, steady budget: an agency for specialist channels, plus one in-house coordinator who owns the brand, content and reporting.
  • Established, high volume: an in-house team for strategy, content and data, with agencies or freelancers for peaks and specialist work.

What to ask an agency

  1. Who will work on my account, and what is their experience in the UAE market?
  2. Can I see results and references from businesses like mine, in numbers?
  3. Who owns the ad accounts, analytics and website access? It should be you.
  4. What is the contract length and the exit process?
  5. How will you report, and on which measures? Enquiries and cost per enquiry matter more than impressions.
  6. Do you offer Arabic content and Arabic keyword research?

Avoid anyone who guarantees rankings or sells links in bulk. See SEO for UAE businesses.

Whatever you choose, own the essentials

  • Ad accounts, analytics, Search Console, domain and hosting are registered in your company's name.
  • Leads go into your CRM, not only into an agency's report. See CRM software.
  • You review a simple monthly dashboard of leads, cost and revenue.

A 30-day trial approach

Before signing a long contract, agree a paid pilot of one month with a clear goal, such as launching tracking and one campaign. Review the work, the communication and the reports. If it works, extend; if not, you lose little. Do the same with a freelancer or a new hire, using a probation period and a first-month plan.

Start with a 90-day marketing plan. We manage ads and build marketing-ready websites too: see Google Ads management and website development.
