A slow page loses customers before they read a word. In the UAE, many first visits happen on a phone, often on a mobile network inside a car or a mall. Google also uses page experience signals as part of how it evaluates sites. Speed is a rare case where the user benefit and the search benefit point the same way.

What Core Web Vitals measure

  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): how quickly the main content, usually a headline image or text block, appears. Aim for under about 2.5 seconds.
  • Interaction to Next Paint (INP): how quickly the page responds when someone taps or types. Lower is better; aim for roughly 200 milliseconds or less.
  • Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): how much the layout jumps while loading. Aim for a very small score, around 0.1 or lower.

Google publishes the current thresholds, so check them when you test.

How to test

Use PageSpeed Insights for a page and read both the lab result and the field data from real users when it is available. Search Console's Core Web Vitals report groups pages that need attention. Test on mobile first, and test your most important pages: the home page, your top service pages and your contact page.

The fixes that usually matter most

  1. Compress and size images. Large photos are the most common cause of slow pages. Use modern formats where supported, set width and height so the layout does not jump, and lazy-load images below the fold. Do not lazy-load the main image at the top.
  2. Reduce scripts. Chat widgets, tag managers, sliders and tracking pixels add up. Remove what you do not use and load the rest after the page appears.
  3. Use fast hosting and caching. A server far away or overloaded adds delay. Enable caching and compression, and consider a content delivery network for global audiences.
  4. Limit fonts. Use one or two font families, and load only the weights you need.
  5. Keep the page simple. Fewer sections above the fold means fewer things to load first.
  6. Fix layout shifts. Reserve space for banners, ads and embeds, and avoid inserting content above what the user is reading.

Speed and conversion

The fastest way to lose an enquiry is to make a person wait. Put your WhatsApp button and enquiry form where they load quickly, and make sure they work on small screens. Fast pages also let Googlebot crawl more of your site in a visit.

Build speed in from the start

A 30-minute speed audit

  1. Run your home page and your top service page through PageSpeed Insights on mobile.
  2. Note the largest element and check whether it is an unoptimised image.
  3. List every third-party script on the page and remove any you do not use.
  4. Check that images have width and height set.
  5. Check that your server responds quickly and that caching and compression are on.
  6. Fix the largest item first, then retest.

Repeat each quarter, and after every new plugin, banner or script is added.
