If you take only one lesson from Google Ads, take this one: you cannot improve what you do not measure. Many UAE accounts run for months on clicks and impressions alone, because the website was never set up to report what visitors do. Conversion tracking closes that gap. It tells you which keywords, ads and pages lead to enquiries, and it gives Google's bidding systems the signal they need to find more of them.

What counts as a conversion

A conversion is any action that has value to your business. For most service companies in the UAE, the meaningful ones are:

  • A completed contact or quote form.
  • A click on a phone number (especially on mobile).
  • A tap on a WhatsApp button or link.
  • A booking, demo request or checkout, where relevant.

Track each as a separate action, and give them different values if some are worth more. A demo request is usually worth more than a newsletter signup, and your account should know it.

The tools involved

The Google tag is the code on your website that sends events to Google Ads. Google Tag Manager is a container that lets you manage tags without editing the site each time. Google Analytics 4 (GA4) records behaviour across the site and can be linked to Google Ads, so you can import conversions and build audiences. You do not need every tool, but you do need a clear, consistent setup.

Tracking form submissions

The most reliable method is to fire the conversion only on the confirmation step, such as a thank-you page or a success message that appears after the form is accepted. Firing it on the button click will count failed or incomplete submissions. After setting it up, submit a test enquiry and confirm exactly one conversion is recorded.

Tracking phone calls

Record clicks on phone links (tel:) as a conversion event. For call ads and call extensions, Google Ads can also report calls from the ad itself, and you can set a minimum call length so very short calls are not counted as leads.

Tracking WhatsApp

WhatsApp is central to how people contact UAE businesses, yet it is missed in many accounts. Add an event to fire when someone clicks a link that begins with a WhatsApp address. This records intent to chat, not the conversation itself, so pair it with a simple internal habit: log which chats become real enquiries in your CRM, so you can compare quality across campaigns.

Connecting the results to your CRM

Clicks and form fills are only the start. The strongest setups pass the ad click identifier (stored when the visitor lands on your site) into your CRM with the lead. When that lead later becomes a customer, you can report the outcome back to Google Ads as an offline conversion, which teaches the system to value quality, not volume. This is where software and advertising meet, and it is something we build for clients regularly.

Checking your setup

  1. Complete each action yourself on desktop and mobile.
  2. Check that each appears once in Tag Assistant and GA4 real-time reports.
  3. Confirm the conversions show in Google Ads, with the right category and value.
  4. Compare Google Ads totals against your own lead records for a week.

Common tracking mistakes

  • Counting page views or button clicks as conversions.
  • Duplicate tags that double-count every enquiry.
  • Treating all conversions as equal when they are not.
  • Ignoring consent and privacy requirements for the visitors you serve.

Spend an afternoon getting tracking right before you spend a month of budget. Everything you do afterwards depends on it.
